I love bobby pins, they keep my hair out of my face and are so conveniently small that I can shove them into any crevice and crack in my personal belongings until such time I find myself desperate for something to keep my hair out of my face and bobby pins come to the rescue! Alas, they always have a pesky habit of slipping out of my hair – mostly due to the fact that my hair is straight, so I’ve been resorting to using twice as many pins and pin them in a cross. This works – mostly, other than the fact that it still slips to some degree.
Can you guess how I’ve been using them? Yes. Wavy-side up – just like almost every single person who uses bobby pins. It has recently been brought to my attention that bobby pins were meant to be worn wavy side down – it was a revelation to me when I found out. More importantly, I realised that the pins stayed put in my straight hair! Maybe wavy-side up was meant to be for people with curly/wavy hair but damn! Straight-side up works so much better for me! This makes me wonder if the way you use bobby pins is dependent on your hair type… I don’t think there is a ‘wrong’ or ‘right’ way to use bobby pins but I think there is an optimal way to use them and it can be summarised as follows:
Wavy hair = wavy-side up
Straight hair = Straight-side up
So how have you been using your bobby pins? Do you think the rule above works for you?
