Expedit/Kallax wardobe

We needed a wardrobe. That was basically the first thing we said (other than “we need a bed”) when my boyfriend signed the lease so we looked high and low – searched gumtree and browsed through every single available wardrobe at Ikea. Everything we saw was either too expensive, too ugly or did not have enough storage space.
Honestly, I first got the idea for this from IkeaHackers.net – a few people had submissions of making the Expedit range into wardrobes but since Expedit has been discontinued and sold off in the bargain bin, we couldn’t find the right size. For that I gumtreed the 4×4 unit ($50 only!) and we managed to snag the 1×5 unit ($65) in the bargain bin on one incredibly busy Saturday morning.
Irrelevant: my favourite time to go to Ikea is when they’re refreshing the displays – hello bargain bin furniture!

DIY Ikea wall light Hack

So from my previous Ikea Hack post you should know that as a condition of renting, we aren’t allowed to drill/stick/glue anything onto the walls or ceilings. The ceiling light in the bathroom was woefully inadequate so to get around that, I had decided to use the two remaining stugvik suction hooks from my previous hack to put in a wall light into the bathroom. This hack will require some electrical knowledge so please for the love of all that is good and holy, don’t attempt this hack unless you know what you’re doing! Also, you will assume all responsibility and liability if you do attempt this hack!
On to the DIY! Instructions will be in the pictures so click on them to enlarge!

Attach a Grundal knife rack without drilling into the wall

*Picture heavy post ahead!*
Recently my boyfriend moved into a rented apartment and one condition was “No drilling, gluing or sticking anything to the walls and ceilings”. We thought, that’s ok – we won’t need to drill/attach anything to walls or ceilings. How every wrong we were. For one, kitchen bench space was very small and we had no where to put a knife holder that would traditionally sit on the counter top and second we didn’t really want to fork out $40-$60 for a knife holder.

Ikea stepped in at this point (pretty sure their demographic is young adults living in a rented shoe box) and we saw the Grundal magnetic knife rack. It was in short perfect – except for one tinnyyy detail. It has to be attached to a wall. Obviously we couldn’t drill into the wall but I remember seeing some bathroom suction hooks that Ikea was also selling. I decided to put the two together and Voila! knife holder without drilling into the walls and for less than $30.

unboxing Memebox Office essentials – AKA the O.L. box

Honestly, I’ve never got onto the Memebox bandwagon but I had recently won the Office Essentials box (they should’ve just called it the “OL* box”!) from a giveaway Chee was holding thanks to Memebox sponsoring it. This is the very first time I’m trying a box and there are some major misses but a few hits as well!
Also, because my usual camera is at my boyfriend’s new place I’ve just resorted to using a cool-toned LED lamp and the back facing Iphone camera for photos in this post! Let me know what you think! Are they noticeably potato-quality or would you not have even noticed if I didn’t mention it? Anyway! On to the unboxing~

Review: Clio Gelpresso waterproof pencil gel liner

Clio Gelpresso Waterproof pencil gel liner. What a mouthful! I bought these two Gelpresso pencils recently on a short trip to Taiwan and I’m just in love with them! So far all Clio products haven’t failed to impress me (see eyeliner and lip lacquer) and this is no exception!
I wanted to buy the pastel colours too but unfortunately the Watsons I was at had sold out (sad face) so I just bought Beige Shine (No. 1) and Bloody Angel (No. 14). Normally I’m not too excited about coloured eyeliners since all the ones I’ve bought have always been lacklustre and I find using eyeshadow as colour eyeliner works just as well (when combined with a good primer!) but combined with my love of Clio and rave reviews, I just had to give this a go when I saw them!

Micellar wars: Garnier vs Bioderma

Yes, everyone – brace yourselves because here is another one of a dozen Bioderma comparison against an el cheapo version post. In all seriousness though, I can straight up tell you I love using Bioderma. My friends have complained about its lack of make up removing power but I don’t believe its meant to be used solely as a make up remover. It does say cleanser so I use it as one. You don’t expect your facial cleanser to remove make up very well so why is there so many people convinced that Bioderma is used for make up removal? I digress.
I use it after I remove my make up with a regular make up remover and then go over my face with precious, precious Bioderma to really get all the left over residue.
So now you know why I love Bioderma (in 250 words or less) – read on to find out how it stacks up against a similar product only at a fraction of the cost.

Life update and a pendant light DIY!

So I haven’t been posting in forever just because life got a little crazy and I just couldn’t keep up with blogging on the side. Between starting my honours year, adjusting to how things work, renovating my room and several sudden decisions to travel overseas I haven’t been able to work up the effort to work on my blog. That’s not to say I don’t have any plans for new reviews! I’ve accumulated a load of new products I’ve been wanting to review but just never got around to *Hangs head in shame*.
In the meantime, here’s a quick pendant light DIY using Ikea products only!

Review: Clio Lipnicure (Revenge pink)

This product has been the only one that I’ve come across so far to live up to it’s claims. A matte lip lacquer that doesn’t smudge, wipe off or transfer and has incredible wear time. Since pretty much everyone has released swatches of all the different shades available, my review will center around the pros and cons of this product focusing on the removal of this product and how the product changes when lip balm/gloss is applied over or under it.

Review: Milk Ultra Light Moisturiser

Part two of my Milk product reviews! Today I’ll be covering the corresponding moisturiser to the Face wash + scrub I reviewed in the last post. The Ultra light moisturiser is not for those with very dry skin but I’ve found it to be appropriately moisturising for my own skin (normal, combination). Read on for more!
