Review: Mizon Enjoy Fresh-on time Black Bean Mask

So I’ve been looking for a wash off mask that is somewhat moisturising for awhile and then I came across this from Mizon and tried to find more information on it. Well, there was absolutely nothing. So I did what any reasonable person would do and straight out purchased it. Was it a good decision? Probably not but poor decisions aside I have taken one for the team and here is more information on this wash off mask.

Basically: From what I can gather, its a wash off mask that you leave on for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. It is for ‘matured’ skin types with a focus on diminishing winkles and fine lines. Cool. I can dig that – I already have fine lines around my eyes as punishment for being happy or something. It comes sealed so it doesn’t explode everywhere during transit.

The good stuff: Doesn’t smell very offensive, slightly sweet, maybe a cookies and cream scent? When applied it doesn’t feel uncomfortable and there is no risk of sliding off my face (as traditional masks are want to do). You also only need a very thin layer of it so the 100ml jar will last quite awhile. There is a temporary moisurising effect but it wears off as the day progresses. After washing off, there is a slight mung bean scent that lingers but it’s not unpleasant (unless you really don’t like mung beans).

Swatch: This is probably as thick as you’d layer on your skin. The black specks are mung bean bits.

Two kind AB’ers had graciously translated this list for me and the English ingredients are below. I’ve bolded any irritants/acne triggers flagged by COSDNA (the entry is on there as well):

purified water, glycerin, propandiol, cetyl ethylhexanoate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, methyl gluceth-20, stearyl alcohol, neopentylglycol diheptanoate, butylene glycol, stearic acid, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, black bean extract (1000 mg), 1,2-hexandiol, ethylhexylglycerin, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, polyacrylate-13, polyisobutene, polysorbate20, beeswax, dimethicone, sodium hyaluronate, carbomer, potassium hydroxide, agar, mango seed butter, shea butter, olive oil, evening primrose oil, gamolenic acid (gamma-Linoleic acid), camellia oil, allantoin, beta-glucan, orris root extract, propylene glycol, hydrolyzed extensin, rosemary extract, broccoli extract, alfalfa extract, cabbage extract, wheat germ extract, brassica campestris (rapeseed) extract, radish seed extract, yeast extract, bean extract, mung bean extract, coix lachryma extract, sesame extract, rice extract, barley extract, buckwheat seed extract, charcoal powder, xantham gum, disodium EDTA, fragrance

Which leads me on to…

Issues: I’m not loving this ingredients list to be honest. The first time I read through the ingredients I was worried I would aggravate my skin. I have pimple, closed comedone and cystic acne prone skin and none of the ingredients strike me as particularly comforting. However, after patch testing it I have not come up with any irritation so I will probably continue to use this while I continue my search for a better wash off mask.

There are two other types of wash off masks in this line (Revital Lime and Sweet Honey) but I haven’t tried them yet and if you’d like to throw one in for the team please do! I’d love to know how the other two stack up (and if I purchased the dud one. So much for being adventurous!)

Please recommend me your favourite wash off mask!

In a Nutshell:

Love: Smells pleasant, will last a long time, won’t slide off my face and temporarily moisturises.
Do not love: Ingredient list is a mine field of triggers and irritants!
Recommended? No – go look for a better one.
I rate it: 2.5/5 Only because it’s just mediocre and hasn’t broke me out.

I’m not a big fan of wash off masks because lazy (hehe), but the sexy packaging did pique my interest. Thanks for taking one for the team, reviewing it and getting it translated, sucks that it didn’t work out so well for you 🙁 !

I know! I loved how it looked and honestly that was what drew me to putting this in my shopping cart to begin with!
I’m not too into wash off masks either but I figured I could use it where sheet masks are not ideal – such as while cooking, cleaning or doing work haha
