I purchased the Maybelline Color Sensational in Vibrant Mandarin a few months ago and it’s my first bright lip colour. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with bright colours but after this I just can’t get enough of bright colours! I bought this for about $8 or so when the whole Maybelline range went on a 50% off sale at Chemist Warehouse but I think RRP is about $16. Don’t quote me on this though because I’m not really sure – lets just say it’s somewhere between $16-$20 at full RRP.
Basically… It’s a lipstick which boasts a heavy pigmentation with colours that pop (hence the name ‘color sensational’ I guess).
The good stuff… Doesn’t smell, taste or feel cheap – no other way to put this but it’s a decent lip product. The packaging is sturdy and the lid doesn’t feel like it’ll crack at the slightest pressure. The colour pay off is good – one layer and you get a beautiful opaque colour. It doesn’t tug too much on my lips and over the Nivea lip butter I don’t even feel a thing when I apply this. The colour looks the best alone though, over the lip butter the pigmentation becomes very sheer.
Issues… Like any lipstick, it isn’t terribly moistursing but at least it doesn’t dry out my lips. This is more a personal preference thing but I’m not too fond of the rectangular packaging – it just gets in the way of everything else in my makeup bag.
Swatches… I’ve swatched it next to the Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar just to show the warm undertones. It’s an orangey red so it works quite well with my warm skintone.
In a Nutshell…
Love: It’s a decent lipstick, doesn’t tug a lot on my lips and colour is as bright and opaque as advertised.
Do not love: Rectangular packaging makes the product bulkier than it has to and like all lipsticks it isn’t very moisturising.
Should you buy it? All the colours from this lip range has good pigmentation and the colours really do ‘pop’ so if you’re after a nude affair this isn’t for you – but if you’re after outstanding colours you should give this range a look.
I rate it: 3.5/5
